When it comes to ESG risk and sustainability, we understand that most mining
companies aim to do the right thing in the jurisdictions where they operate.
However, with most capital focused on drilling and resource definition, environmental
and social risks feel like an added burden.
Oteba provides the expertise of a sustainability specialist and environment manager without the full-time expense. Our consultants integrate seamlessly into your team, delivering tailored support for as many days a week or month as your business requires.

Oteba was founded in 2017 by Ben Pearson, an environmental scientist with over 25 years of experience in environmental management, impact assessment, sustainability, and ESG.
Ben’s diverse background provides him with a unique and informed perspective. He spent a significant part of his early career in various environmental management and consultancy roles, including positions with the Nature Conservation Council, NSW EPA, Sydney Airport, Oceanographic Research Institute S.A, and ERM, among others. More recently, he served as the Managing Director of an ASX-listed company focused on securing critical mineral projects in the USA and Canada.
Ben holds a Bachelor of Applied Science and a Master of Science (Environmental) from the University of Technology, Sydney. He is a member of the Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand and the Australian Institute of Mining & Metallurgy.
In his personal life, Ben is a long-suffering supporter of the Wests Tigers and the Wallabies.
He later co-founded OPEC Systems delivering technologies for environmental pollution control, emergency response management and bioremediation. The business remains an ongoing concern to this day.
After selling his equity stake in OPEC Systems he moved into Management Consultancy before co-founding a vocational training company delivering training programs with an emphasis on tourism, sustainability and resource efficiency.
After successfully exiting the training company, he was engaged by a U.S.
PE firm to turnaround a flailing waste management company with operations throughout the Sydney basin.
In 2018, he founded Oteba to deliver practical ESG solutions for junior miners.
